How We Made A Movie For $666 – Kickstarter Book Announcement

How We_1000PRESS RELEASE

Andy Remic has announced the final completion of his debut indie horror movie, IMPURITY, starring Frazer Hines (Doctor Who/Emmerdale), made by a group of friends for the astonishingly devilish sum of $666. You can check this out at www.impuritythemovie.com.

To celebrate, Andy intends to write a book about his grueling exploits, inspired by Robert Rodriguez (Rebel Without a Crew), Chris Nolan (Following, Memento, Dark Knight) and Chris Jones/Genevieve Joliffe (Guerilla’s Filmmakers Handbook). He has started a Kickstarter campaign, and for just £6 you can receive the book, and for £10 the book and a 1 month window to watch the movie – as well as some other very interesting pledges including the chance to be in the next movie! (Woohoo!)

All proceeds from this Kickstarter go towards the making of the next film, The Mask Within. You can read more at:

DARKNESS

THE WARRIOR’S JOURNEY Book 2

by Edward Drake

Castille is a land in ruin. Morrigan and his Paladins have laid waste what once stood, shattering the peace of a hundred years.

Garrick Chilver, newly knighted, along with his companions, set out to find the killer of the last of his family. Together with a murderer, an innocent marked for great power, a veteran of a dozen campaigns, a mysterious sorcerer and two escaped slaves, he will fight to drive back Morrigan’s hellish unleashed nightmares… and avenge those loved ones he has lost.

The Paladins are not the only threat Garrick’s party will face. In the shadows lurk those who wait merely for the right moment to strike at the weakened nation. Corrupt and power-hungry, they see their righteous chance amidst the chaos.

In his pursuit of vengeance, Garrick will lead the knights to the citadel of Rheins, the one defence on the borders of Castille. If the citadel falls, there will be nothing to stop Morrigan’s destructive rage.

The Warrior’s Journey is an epic series of champions and honour, showing what it truly means to be a hero – a shining example of a bright flame ranged against the darkness of chaos!

Described by fantasy author Ian Graham as, “Fast-paced traditional fantasy… breathless and compelling” this is a good old traditional fantasy tale swaddled in the same oak casket as The Lord of the Rings and fantasy by David Eddings and Raymond Feist.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Writing began as a pastime for Edward, using it over the years as something to avoid real work and study. From this interest a website was created to display his short stories and previews of larger tales; http://edwarddrakefiction.com/

Living in the Norfolk countryside, Edward Drake returned to a story he had written several years previously during his studies, a tale of honourable knights, despised kings and beautiful, heroic princesses. Rewriting the novel almost from scratch, Destiny was created as the first in The Warrior’s Journey series.

After a brief stint with another publisher, Destiny was rewritten and retitled THE WARRIOR’S JOURNEY – to be published by ANARCHY BOOKS in 2013. This will be followed soon after by DARKNESS, Book 2 of THE WARRIOR’S JOURNEY, also in 2013, with Books 3 and 4 slated for a 2014 release.

Edward Drake has also had a short story, The Cost of Glory, published in the anthology Day of Demons. The Cost of Glory is a fantasy tale set in the world of The Warrior’s Journey, following a sell-sword’s final quest in defeating the demon that plagued him all his life. The success of The Cost of Glory led to the creation of two novelettes focused on the central character, entitled Stormheart:Legend and Stormheart:Myth.

The Four Realms Update…….

Four Realms Final_500The last six weeks have been hectic… brilliant, but hectic as I promoted The Four Realms.  Seeing your debut novel released to the world is a nerve-racking experience.  Obviously your publisher believes in the book otherwise they would not have offered to publish it, but what of the wider public?

I’ve been genuinely delighted by the response.  People seem to be enjoying the novel and saying lovely things about it.

A Fantastic Librarian says  “Faulkner’s debut managed to deliver a host of interesting and some downright compelling characters”  ( http://www.afantasticallibrarian.com/2013/01/adrian-faulkner-four-realms.html)

WarpcoreSF calls The Four Realms “a thoroughly enjoyable mystery that mashes up modern urban fantasy with aliens and a more traditional fantasy world that’s in a state of gradual modernisation.”  (http://www.warpcoresf.co.uk/the-four-realms.php)

All Things Urban Fantasy says “I would highly recommend THE FOUR REALMS to anyone who  wants a twist on the usual sword and sorcery.” (http://allthingsuf.com/2013/01/review-the-four-realms-by-adrian-faulkner.html)

The Eloquent Page says “Faulkner has created a great plot that’s very easy to get caught up in. The cast of characters work well and the world that the author has invented is consistently interesting.”

I’ve been interviewed over at The Qwillery (http://qwillery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/interview-with-adrian-faulkner-author.html),  My Bookish Ways (http://www.mybookishways.com/2013/01/interview-adrian-faulkner-author-of-the-four-realms.html), Civilian Reader (http://civilian-reader.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/interview-with-adrian-faulkner.html), and Manga Maniac Café. (http://www.mangamaniaccafe.com/?p=7939).

I’ve even been on the HeadSpace podcast talking about my writing process. (http://www.writersheadspace.blogspot.co.uk/)

Manga Maniac Café also hosted a novel extract. (http://www.mangamaniaccafe.com/?p=7970)

I’ve written a number of guest posts:  One on the origin of my 82 year old protagonist, Maureen, for A Fantastic Librarian (http://www.afantasticallibrarian.com/2013/01/guest-post-adrian-faulkner-maureen.html) and another on my Worldbuilding for Civilian Reader (http://civilian-reader.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/guest-post-worldbuilding-of-four-realms.html)

But it’s not just bloggers who’ve been talking about the novel,  general readers have been leaving reviews at Amazon and Goodreads as well as contacting me direct.

Reader Neil says “Discworld meets Underworld, I loved this book and couldn’t stop reading it”.

Kevin says “I really enjoyed your book and was unhappy when I finished and realized I would have to wait for book two”.

Dornon says “I’ll certainly read more from this author.  There are touches of genius in this book and it is worth a read so I do recommend it.”

But it’s still not over. I’ve got another interview and there’s at least one review from a professional outlet forthcoming.  No wonder the last six weeks have gone by in a flash!

Of course, now the aim is to build upon this and write a new book that’s even better received.  I reckon that’s going to be a tough job but I’m glad to say I’m already well into writing the next book in my perceived series.

And finally, just had another great review over at The Troubled Scribe!!

THE FOUR REALMS-

Half-vampire Darwin stumbles across a corpse on the streets of London, and in a pocket discovers a notebook in a mysterious language. Divided between human ethics and vampire bloodlust, Darwin finds himself both condemner and saviour of a race who’ve never considered him one of their own. Now, he must try and lead the survivors to sanctuary in New Salisbury before Mr West completes his genocide of the vampires in his quest to obtain the book…

Maureen Summerglass is eighty-two years old, and a prisoner in her ramshackle home. She is afraid to let people enter in case they discover the oak door in her cellar. Threatened with homelessness and retirement from her job as a gatekeeper between worlds, Maureen breaks protocol when the death of a close friend is covered up… and enters the city of New Salisbury to search for his missing notebook. There, she discovers a world unlike the one of myth and fairy tale she imagined, and instead one of black market economies, brand names and tuk tuks. As she investigates, not only is she in extreme danger, but discovers she may be the first human female able to use magic…

MONSTERS ANONYMOUS

Have you looked in the closet lately? Well beware, because some things are not meant to come out…

Monsters Anonymous, a support group that lets the monsters out from behind the closet door. A place where creatures from nightmare meet up, share their experiences, and talk about their addictions… Because addiction is what monsters suffer; whether it’s the vampire addicted to blood, the cannibal or were addicted to meat, or the mummy addicted to life essence – these monsters are misunderstood, and want to share their stories.

From the streets of Victorian London, the jungles of deepest Mexico, the ancient city of Thebes or the sex-shop backstreets of Birmingham, monsters get into all sorts of places… and all sorts of devices. Wild chases, raw meat, unorthodox sex toys and the Holy Grail, Monsters Anonymous will make you laugh, weep, and maybe even scream.

“A gruesome short story collection, with its severed tongue stuffed firmly in its lacerated cheek…” – Richard Ford, Author of Kultus.

“With a heady mix of humour and gore, Derwin gives us a clever and unique take on the horror genre. Witty, bloody and pulling no punches, Monsters Anonymous is a cracking collection.” – Dave Jeffery (Necropolis Rising, Beatrice Beecham Series)

“This is a fun and yet disturbing read that really does manage to freak you out in unusual ways. It is well worth a read.” – Tony Lane, Review at Tony’s Thoughts
